How to apply the filter - Chrome.

So now that we have AdBlock installed, we'll be adding a filter. I'm going to navigate my way into AdBlock's options in both browsers and tell you guys how to apply the filter. We'll start with Chrome, the easiest.

Start off by installing AdBlock, in the download link above. Once downloaded you'll see the AdBlock symbol up at the top right. You want to click it, and hit options. Click customize, edit, add the following filter and click save. You're done!

Code:
/ajax/mercury/change_read_status.php$domain=facebook.com

How to apply the filter - Mozilla.

Obviously install AdBlock. Click Firefox at the top left > add-ons > extensions > double click AdBlock > and click filter preferences. Here is where we'll be adding the filter. Click custom filters at the top left of the window > add filter group on the left side > and add filter on the right side. Add the filter we used before and click close. You're done!

Additional information.

You're pretty much done but there's a few things you should know. Now when you're using this. From now on when you click a conversation on Facebook it won't actually mark it as read; thus not notifying the person/people that you've seen the message. The conversation will be blue because it's marked as unread. The message counter will also rise. To turn this cool feature off just simply remove the filter.
