Wikipad Gaming Tablet Headed to GameStop

The Wikipad, billed as the world's first combination tablet and game controller, is coming to GameStop on Oct. 31. The Android device sports Nvidia's quad-core, 1.4GHz Tegra 3 T30s chip and will be available for $499 at the retailer's U.S. outlets, Wikipad said Friday.
"We are thrilled to be partnering with Wikipad to launch this unique new gaming tablet. We love the innovation and know our customers are excited to see it in action," Joe Gorman, vice president of GameStop's mobile business unit, said in a statement.
The Wikipad package (pictured) includes a 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch screen tablet plus an "attachable console-quality gamepad controller," according to the company. The device is launching in October "with a full suite of games delivered by the latest video game platforms, including PlayStation Mobile, Nvidia's Tegra Zone, Google Play, as well as several upcoming unannounced platforms."
The tablet weighs 1.23 pounds, sports a scratch-resistant Gorilla glass screen to protect its 1280-by-800 resolution LCD 10-point-gesture panel, and is Wi-Fi capable. It carries 1GB of DDR2 memory and 16GB of onboard Flash memory, with a Micro SD slot for expanding the storage capacity by up to another 32GB. The Wikipad has a 2-megapixel front camera and 8-megapixel rear unit with Autofocus and flash, a docking connector port, a 3.5mm stereo headphone minijack, built-in stereo speakers, a microphone, and a Micro USB connector.
The unit's power source is a 23.46 watt-hour rechargable lithium-polymer battery that promises up to 8 hours of video play between plug-ins, and the Wikipad also has a 3-axis accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, an e-Compass, and a gyroscope, according to the spec sheet.
The Wikipad is currently available for pre-order from GameStop stores or at the retailer's online portal. Customers pre-ordering the unit get "value-added extras including full-length titles and an issue of Game Informer Digital," according to Wikipad.
