Android M might bring two-year software update guarantee to Nexus devices
Google I/O 2015 is starting tomorrow, and we all pretty much know that the US technology giant will unveil the next major version of Android operating system during the event. It is said that Google has focussed on RAM and battery efficiency in Android M, but it will also bring one more important feature for Nexus devices.
According to a new report from Android Police, starting with Android M, Nexus devices will come with two-year software update guarantee for major Android versions and a three-year software upgrade guarantee for security patches.
Apparently, these time frames are based on the release date of Android versions, which is usually the date when new Nexus devices are announced. Currently, Google guarantees software updates to Nexus devices till 18 months of their public release, and if the report is true, it would surely increase the brand value of Nexus devices in consumers’ minds.
The LG Nexus 4, which was released in 2013, is updated to Android 5.1. However, this could also mean that it would be the last Android update to the device. It is possible that Google might not announce the Nexus software upgrade program during the Google I/O 2015 itself, but during the public release of the next major version of Android.
