Xolo set to launch its online-only brand ‘Black’ to compete with Xiaomi and YU

To take on the likes of Xiaomi, YU, and other smartphone brands that are focussing on online retail channels, Xolo is set to launch its online-only sub-brand dubbed ‘Black’. Funny thing, Xolo is already a sub-brand of Lava Mobiles, a Noida-based smartphone brand.

The company is planning to launch 5-6 smartphones this year, with its first product launch slated for a launch in sometime in June. The first smartphone under the brand ‘Black’ will feature dual camera sensors on the rear, and 4G LTE connectivity. For that matter, all the smartphones under the brand will be 4G LTE compatible, and will be priced between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000. The good thing is, Xolo will not follow the ‘Flash Sales’ model for its devices under this new sub-brand, unlike others.

After Motorola, Xiaomi, and OnePlus started focussing on the online sales retail channel to attract the youth audience in India, other brands followed soon. Micromax introduced its online-only sub-brand YU, and Lenovo, Huawei, and Alcatel OneTouch started focussing on the online retail channels, and launched devices exclusive to one or the other online stores.

Apple iPhone 6S to feature Force Touch technology from the Apple Watch

Apple had everybody’s attention when it showcased the Force Touch and haptic feedback technology for the display on the Apple Watch. You could do different things by pressing the screen with different amounts of pressures. This then went on to become a part of the company’s Macbook as well. Apple seems to be working on bringing the same technology to the iPhone 6S, which is expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2015.

Apple iPhone 6S to feature Force Touch technology from the Apple Watch

Force Touch, even though useful, is quite difficult to master. Just to put things into perspective, it allows to fast-forward videos if you press a little harder but you don’t know as to how much the Force Touch will forward the video. The word on the street is that only power users are being targeted with the Force Touch as it won’t be necessity to master it in order to properly use the smartphone.

The upcoming iOS 9, and various upcoming apps will accommodate this new touch technology. The initial reports suggest that features such as a dictionary could pop up upon using the Force Touch. As of now, you need to select the entire word and then press define to look up a word’s meaning. The other addition that Apple is working on is revamping the iOS 8 shift key which currently has quite a confusing position between being on or off. The keyboard will be tweaked as well.

Xiaomi’s Mi Fit app for Mi Band now supports Google Fit for data sync

Xiaomi’s Mi Fit app for Mi Band now supports Google Fit for data sync

Xiaomi released the Mi Band activity tracker in India earlier this month, along with a dedicated app that shows a user’s activity.  It’s a great activity tracker for the price, and even has a great battery life, but the only problem was that it didn’t sync with Google Fit. Now, Xiaomi has released an updated version of the app that supports Google Fit.

Xiaomi’s Mi Fit app for Mi Band now supports Google Fit for data sync

Google Fit app for Android was released last year along with an API so that it can gather data from all the activity and fitness trackers and show it in one place, just like Apple HealthKit. Google recently released an updated version of Google Fit, allowing it to show distance tracking, calories burnt, and more. Support for Google Fit means that you will not lose your activity and fitness related data even if you decide to replace your Mi Band with YuFit, or any other Android Wear smartwatch, or even an Android smartphone.

Xiaomi’s Mi Fit app for Mi Band now supports Google Fit for data sync

The Mi Band device is priced at just Rs. 999, and competes with the YuFit smartband that was launched along with the Yu Yuphoria. The YuFit smartband is priced at Rs. 999, but comes with an OLED display that shows vital fitness statistics and notifications from a paired Android device.

Android M might bring two-year software update guarantee to Nexus devices

Google I/O 2015 is starting tomorrow, and we all pretty much know that the US technology giant will unveil the next major version of Android operating system during the event. It is said that Google has focussed on RAM and battery efficiency in Android M, but it will also bring one more important feature for Nexus devices.

Android M might bring two-year software update guarantee to Nexus devices

According to a new report from Android Police, starting with Android M, Nexus devices will come with two-year software update guarantee for major Android versions and a three-year software upgrade guarantee for security patches.

Android M might bring two-year software update guarantee to Nexus devices

Apparently, these time frames are based on the release date of Android versions, which is usually the date when new Nexus devices are announced. Currently, Google guarantees software updates to Nexus devices till 18 months of their public release, and if the report is true, it would surely increase the brand value of Nexus devices in consumers’ minds.
The LG Nexus 4, which was released in 2013, is updated to Android 5.1. However, this could also mean that it would be the last Android update to the device. It is possible that Google might not announce the Nexus software upgrade program during the Google I/O 2015 itself, but during the public release of the next major version of Android.

After Microsoft announced that it will bring Cortana to Android as well as iOS, there was huge enthusiasm among Windows fans as well as technology enthusiasts, but looks like Microsoft has more tricks up its sleeve. Now, one more upcoming app from Microsoft has leaked that seems like a variant of Cortana, which is personalised to be used at work environments.

The app, which is called Microsoft Office Now, is focussed in helping users organise their time and provide relevant information to the objective a user is trying to accomplish. Similar to Google Now and Cortana, the app will constantly show cards with relevant information such as daily tasks, commute related information, missed call alerts, in-depth people insights, natural language event creation, email cards, and several other things.

You might wonder as to how this is different from Cortana. Well, with Cortana, you ask Cortana for some information, and wait for the results to show up. With Office Now, relevant information will automatically be delivered to you, similar to Google Now.

iPhones might soon exhibit “Assembled in India” tag

Rumor has it that —Foxconn — Apple’s major manufacturing contractor has been given approval to construct a manufacturing unit in India. In accordance with the reports, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, said that government has been negotiating on the set up of such plant in the state.

iPhones might soon exhibit “Assembled in India” tag

If this deal finds solid ground than being just a rumor, then it could be a big leap forward for Apple as it was not allowed to sell iPhones in India on the pre-text of not having a manufacturing center in the country. With this move Apple can tap the growth that lies in India and its ever growing mobile consumer base.
The reports also state that the Indian government will be supporting such a plant as it will prove to be beneficial for economic growth, and will also result in an increase of employment. Devendra Fadnavis is pretty impressed by Foxconn’s existing plant in Henan province that provides employment to around 3,00,000 workers, so we can assume that Foxconn might setup a similar in India too.
As of now, there is no confirmation regarding the closure of deal, although if it turns out to be true, then it might just be used to build device parts and the final assembling might still be executed in the China based unit.

Pretty cool for heavy users, isn’t it? With both the batteries fully charged, the company is promising 4-day battery life, but we think that it is all aharketing talk, but you can definitely expect 2 days of heavy usage with the device.

Other than the battery, the device, which recently passed TENAA certification, will feature a 5.5-inch 720p AMOLED display, 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, a microSD card slot, 8-megapixel primary camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. Looks like a great device for people who want long battery life from their smartphone, and then there are things like dual batteries, reverse charging, and Android 5.1 to boot.
It will be interesting to see how Gionee prices this device once it launches in India, but we think that it will be priced under Rs. 10,000 mark, similar to its predecessors.
